Reflection 3: Understanding and Managing Stress

Reflect on the topics discussed in class and write a paragraph using the guiding questions below. The reflection should be at least 150-250 words.

How might stress impact you as an MRT? Describe your strategies for recognizing stress. What methods do you currently use to manage stress? Describe your plan to deal with stress in the future.

It is common to experience stress at work. As a future medical radiation technologist, in terms of my introverted personality, I would feel stressed in my relationships with colleagues or struggling for the best performance. Mistakes I've made in previous work often brought me judgment from senior colleagues and my boss. Therefore, I would possibly hide my weaknesses to maintain my self-esteem and normal relationships with colleagues. If I made mistakes as an MRT, it might be hard for me to admit them immediately because I am afraid my co-workers would think less of me. At the same time, in order to be safe, I would try my best to be perfect, which is impossible. This kind of stress would result in more mistakes.

The first thing causes stress for me is procrastination. When I pile up a lot of things waiting to do, I usually force myself to start with the easiest task and gain some comfort after it is finished. I have realized that starting is the most difficult part. Once I start, the pile of things becomes easier. If there are too many tasks, I often take some time to relax in the middle, such as playing games or watching cleaning videos. In the future, when I work as an MRT, I will talk to colleagues about my stress because sharing the pa can make it less painful. Moreover, I would love to try walking in nature, like woods, hoping the tranquility and fresh air can relax my nerves.
