Reflection 4: Personal Values Assessment

Complete the attached Personal Values Assessment - Self-Development Exercises chart. Upload the completed chart on Brightspace.

Of the 5 values you found were most important to you, choose your top three values and examine why these are so important to you using the chart below. Completing this will help you think more about how these values influence your actions and understand why you may respond in a certain way if someone acts in a manner that goes against one of these values.

From the values chosen above, think about the three that are most important to you? Write them in the spaces below. Why do you believe that this value is important to you? Recall a moment in your life when you really lived this value. What behaviors did you exhibit that support this value? How might you react if this value was not being honored by others? Describe your feelings, thoughts and actions.
1. security I want stable, low-risk life. Dealing with troubles and risks takes away time on which I could've spent doing something in my plan. I choose safe place to sleep and never sleep alone. I can understand if others don't value this. I am a very insecure person. I can make my own decision to live in a safe place. If someone break my invisible security wall, I will be mad and anxious.
2. wealth I want to have some money that is enough to support a normal life. I don't want to have financial constraints for at least half of the things I want to do. I don't spend money randomly so I can have them for some real needs. I can understand. Some people like enjoy the present. However, I will think people who don't save money may take a tumble in the future.
3. excitment Life requires emotion to be called human, not mere flesh. I don't want to live like a robot. I leave my country to start a new life. This experience makes me feel a lot. People who don't value excitement may not have waves, like happiness, in their life. They may live a stable but numb life.

In this second exercise you are asked to think about areas to strengthen or develop, or values you would like to demonstrate more fully in your life. Completing this will allow you to start to build an action plan to support your self-development.

From your selected values or the values listed below, choose up to three that you would like to live more fully. What behaviors or actions do you already demonstrate which support this intention? What could you stop doing to better support this value? What could you start doing to help you demonstrate this value more fully?
1. Reliability I don't make promises lightly. Once I do, I strive to keep them. I should control my emotions because sometimes I would promise to help someone without thinking too much for being so excited. In this situation, I may regret later. I should try to do my best at every task. Therefore, people can see my ability and trust me for that.
2. Creativity I explore my own study method instead of just following advice. Sometimes I DIY small decorations in my home. I can't be too stuck in old ways. I should think more and jump out of the frame.
3. Achievement I had been good in school in past years. I should stop ignoring thing I don't like, such as socializing, which may help me achieve more. I should explore more choices and more chances to make achievements.
